Introducing the XPass Q2 to South Africa

Suprema South Africa is pleased to announce the availability of the XPass Q2 — Suprema's latest intelligent reader that unifies QR code scanning, mobile credential support and multi-format RFID in a single, compact device.

The XPass Q2 is designed for organisations that need to manage multiple credential types at high throughput — from corporate lobbies and parking barriers to events venues, hospitals and manufacturing facilities where both employee and visitor flows need to be controlled efficiently.

Multi-format credential support in one reader

What sets the XPass Q2 apart is its ability to read virtually any credential type without requiring multiple readers at a single access point:

  • QR & barcode formats — DataMatrix, QR Code, Aztec, Micro QR, PDF417, Code39, Code128, UPC and EAN
  • Mobile credentials — NFC (HCE) and BLE via smartphone
  • RFID cards — 125 kHz EM and 13.56 MHz MIFARE, DESFire EV1/EV2/EV3, FeliCa

With a QR scan throughput of approximately 30 people per minute, the XPass Q2 handles peak-hour access without creating queues.

Enterprise-grade security in a compact form

The XPass Q2 incorporates Secure Boot with cryptographically verified firmware, real-time tamper detection, and OSDP V2 encrypted reader communication. An integrated door relay means it can directly control a single door lock without a separate access controller — simplifying single-door installations significantly.

The device is IP65-rated for weather resistance and supports an operating temperature range of -20°C to 60°C, making it well-suited to South African outdoor installations.

BioStar 2 and BioStar Air compatible

XPass Q2 integrates natively with both BioStar 2 on-premise and BioStar Air cloud deployments. For visitor management and ticketing applications, the QR credential flow allows pre-issued digital tickets to be validated directly at the reader — without any additional hardware.
